Review Spice Funnel: A Handy Tool for Cooking with Spices
DoT’s Thot: My mother always told me, “Except for being sick, the bigger the better.” This she told me because I always wanted the cute, itty-bitty little things — almost anything miniature.
As I grow older, that still works, except I do not see things as well. However, some “good things do come in small packages”. Here is one kitchen utensil I really like: my special spice funnel.

A Spice Funnel Is Perfect For Filling Small Jars of Spice Seeds
A Handy Tool For the Cook Who Loves Cooking With Spices
I love this — it is one of the small kitchen gadgets that I find so very useful — the little spice funnel. My funnel is made of steel and you can see that it has a larger tip than the standard funnel. You can see it is also cut at an angle, which makes the opening larger at the bottom for small seeds or spice powder to drop down into the spice jars.

What I have shown here for my spice jar is one of those miniature ketchup bottles you get with room service at many hotels. It holds under 3 ounces and is a great size for lining up a whole host of spices you like, but don’t have space for large amounts.
That is another story altogether. We’ll talk about that another time. This time, let’s look at filling those small spice jars without a lot of hassle and without spilling.
Filling the Little Spice Jar
Using the spice funnel, set your small spice jar on a level surface. I realize now that I neglected to do in this instance what I usually do — place the spice jar on a plate or pie pan so you can catch anything that spills and recoup the spice. I did so, because I spill very infrequently now with the funnel.
Using a small spoon — little plastic ones work as well as this little “expresso spoon” that I am using. Just work deliberately and let the funnel do its job. I have been so much happier with buying spices in bulk and filling my own containers (and reusing those little bottles) since finding this handy cool’s tool. This small kitchen gadget is a winner.
You can find these funnels in a variety of sizes and some made of different materials. I really love my sturdy steel version.
